The people have spoken, and the winner is....

Runner up...

Both worthy winners, I think you'll agree.

For my money though the decline of Woolies is particularly sad, as it was once quite a nice store, whereas as Iceland has always been rather grotty - cheap and not very cheerful.

Iceland do a very nice chicken and mushroom pie, though. And Woolies have always had a crumbling look. So the voters don't know what they're talking about!

Bah. Curry's should have won (Lewisham branch, of course)

...and Woolies is fun for children because it sells everything. Although the Lewisham branch does look post-suicide bomb, I admit.

I think we should attacK LEWISHAM ITSELF!!

I've been treating all of these as represented by the Lewisham branches!

The Lewisham Woolworths is the most horrible shop, bar none. It really should just be put out of its misery.

I still use Iceland as it's cheap for certain things (Chickpeas, 25p a tin) but it still doesn't detract from the fact that most of it is frozen DEAD.

And what i miss most about ''the wonder of woolies'' is that they used to have wooden floors.

No trouble, Lurc. We'll live off wild mushrooms on Blackheath, wild rocket from Deptford and spider crabs from the Ravensbourne!

Growing up in the days before security cameras, barcodes and electronic tags, I used to buy a lot of records from Woolies. Well, when I say "buy", I actually mean swap the price stickers and then take to the till manned by the oldest, most out of touch looking old woman. My proudest moment was getting Stevie Wonder's double-vinyl compilation 'Original Musicquarium' for just 79p. I still have it. I also still have a 7" copy of The Stranglers' "Golden Brown" that I stole after being egged on by Andrew McConnell, whose name was legend at our school when he stole the ENTIRE top-ten 7" singles from Woolworth in Ilford one Saturday lunchtime. And the Pick'n'Mix section practically BEGGED you to shoplift.

I think every school had an Andrew McConnell - and yes Woolies was (allegedly) the easiest to shoplift!

Hi! You're very welcome!

i had a look at your profile and noticed a few local references, so yes, you had to be on board.

Some have considered me to be "weird" in the past however...but not in a sinister way.
